How to Buy The Best Electronic Dart Board?

Display

Electronic dartboards will mostly come in either LED or LCD display. We, personally, prefer LED or LCD because it is brighter and sharper. Having said that, there’s nothing wrong with an LCD display, but LED is visibly better!

Type of Darts

You should only and only use soft tip darts on any electronic dartboard unless stated otherwise. Electronic dartboards do not use sisal fibers and are therefore incapable of withstanding the impact from a steel tip dart. It will wear down the surface of the board, damage the darts, and cut down on the lifespan of the product.

Scorekeeping

Scorekeeping, luckily, is a piece of cake on electronic boards. The board will register the score automatically and show it on the display screen.

There’s no need for the manual stuff. What you want to make sure, however, is that you get a dartboard is has quality sensors and sensitivity. Mind you, many electronic boards are notorious for not registering score due to faulty sensors.

Games

One of the best things about electronic dartboard is that they offer a huge number of games you can play on it. It is obviously fun and exciting, but we recommend that you don’t go overboard. The more games it has, the more expensive it gets.

Number of Players

This aspect of our buying guide is entirely dependent on you. Some electronic dartboards can accommodate up to 8 players while some up to 10, or more!

Pick something you think you’d be able to play with your group of friends and family. If it is for business purposes however, then try and get as many players it can accommodate.

Material

Every board is a little different from the next. But electronic dartboards are more or less made from a few common stuff like composite resin. Whatever it is made from, try and get something that looks and feels reliable. Bad boards will warp on you!

Power

Electronic dartboards are either battery-powered or corded. Each have their own sets of advantages and cons. A battery may be more maintenance, but it is great for places where you do not have power outlets, great for travel and so on.

Read ->  Gearbox Pickleball Paddles Reviewed (Comparison & Buyer’s Guide)

An AC adapter lets you play for as long as you want, but it means you will only be able to play with a power outlet around.

Size

The regulation size for an electronic dartboard is a target area of 15 inches. However, nobody is going to charge you for playing outside of the regulation size. If you are new, need something for the home, get something smaller..or bigger….it’s all good!

Sound Effect

One thing we think you should ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY get is a voice programmed electronic dartboard.

This little feature can do such amazing and fun stuff! We personally like the heckler feature in many dartboards which insults you for throwing bad throws! It can obviously do so much more than just that. It can narrate the start and end of a game, give advice and so on.

Bounce Outs

Bounce outs are your enemy. You want to keep thing to a minimum. And one of the many ways to do is by getting an electronic dartboard that uses very thin, angular and steep wirings.

Even better, get curved wires. This way, you dart will slip from it and penetrate into the target area. Also, try and get a board that comes with a spider that’s as flush to the board as possible. We also recommend getting a staple-free dartboard.

How to Set Up an Electronic Dartboard?

Location

Most people will hang a dartboard just about anywhere they can fit their legs, but little do they know that proper placement is ideal if you want to experience the most and best out of the game.

The place where you want to install or hang your dartboard should have at least 9 to 10 feet of floor space from the wall to you. This distance should cover a throwing line of 7 ft and 9 ½ inches and 2 feet worth of space away from the throwing lines where you stand.

In other words, the board should be 9 to 10 feet away from you. You should have enough space width-wise as well. You should be able to flex, turn and move your arms in all directions.

A stuffy, congested and clustered location will cost you the quality of your game! Keep these measurements in mind, and you set up your dartboard in just about any place- garage, rec room, bedroom, hallway, etc.

Keep in mind that the wall on which you hang the board may experience some cosmetic damages for obvious reasons. . . .it’s all a part of the game!

How to Install Your Dartboard?

Speaking of which, how far up you hang your dartboard also makes a huge difference. Before you even unpack and begin fidgeting around with anything, you must make sure that you hang your board at least 5 feet and 8 inches from the ground level. Now, let’s get to install the board. Most dartboards come with a 3-hole installation system which allows you hand the board on drilled screws. Chances are that your dartboard has come with all the installation and mounting hardware already included in the box. Follow the instruction given and that’s it! That’s all there is to it! However, many users are reluctant to drill walls for aesthetic reasons. And for that, you can find many non-invasive mounting brackets sold in the market or online. We have even come across very strong adhesive tapes that hold you dartboard in place on the wall.

Maintaining a Dartboard

Buying a fancy and expensive dartboard does not guaranty a good lifespan. We have seen heaps of cases where high-end boards didn’t make it past the 3-month line. On the other hand, taking good care of your dartboard can even make a cheap, basic dartboard outlast the fancy stuff. Here are some of the things you could do:

  1. Do not compromise with dart tips. Some dartboards are made specifically for a certain time of dart tip. In other words, don’t use steel tips or soft tip darts where they are not supposed to be used!
  2. Do not wet your board. For some reason, go knows why many people tend to spill drinks and water on their board. We could justice this at a bar, maybe, but there is no reason why this should happen in your homes or bedroom. Wet board equals mold and warping, remember that!
  3. Clean your dartboard every now and then. Don’t use a brush, or a mop, and don’t even think about using a damp cloth. Use a super soft, preferably microfiber, cloth to gentle wipe on the surface of the dartboard.
  4. If you are using an electronic dartboard that runs on battery, then we highly recommend that you make a habit of replacing them regularly. Also, if you thinking about storing away the dartboard for a long and indefinite period of time, then take out the batteries first.
  5. If you are using a bristle dartboard, then don’t forget to turn the moveable ring every now and then. Turning the ring turns the segment. This allows the more penetrated and concentrated segments to rotate away while you use the fresher segments. This, eventually, creates a more even target area.
  6. Use a dart sharpener to sharpen your dart tips. Blunt tips do not penetrate the target area well, and also damages the surface over a long time.

Conclusion

Well, that’s pretty much all we have to say regarding Dart Boards, be it bristle or electronic. Hope you can choose the dartboard that is right for you from the list. If you still have questions or feel we need to cover anything else feel free to contact us. See you soon in our next article. Till then adios!
